Agentic Adoption

From Tools to Workforce: How European Enterprises Adopt AI Agents

· By Myrmid

European enterprises are not behind on AI adoption. They are ahead on AI scepticism, and that scepticism is well earned. The first wave of enterprise AI gave them demos that did not survive real data, lock-in dressed up as integration, and records nobody could fully account for. The second wave, agents that carry work rather than answer questions, is the one that has to clear that bar.

What changes when agents carry the work

Work becomes agentic when agents carry several steps on their own: gathering information, applying judgment, using your tools, and writing results back, with no person conducting each hand-over. The shift is not from manual to automated. It is from automating fixed rules to handing over outcomes.

That is where the leverage is. Closing the quarter used to take four people and four spreadsheets. With agents on it, the ledger is gathered, reconciled against the bank, anomalies are flagged for review, the variance commentary is drafted and the close package is assembled. Your people take the decisions that matter; the agents do the assembly.

But the leverage only arrives if three things hold.

What enterprises actually need

Trust you can show. You need to see what your agents did, step by step, not just the final output. Without that, the work is a black box your auditors will reject and your people cannot correct.

Strategic autonomy. You should not have to stand on one American vendor's stack. Which models do the work, and who serves them, should stay your decisions.

Sovereignty as the floor. For a European enterprise, the service should run under European jurisdiction by default: not as a premium tier, not as a promise from an operator answering to another country's law, but as the only option. Getting this wrong is not abstract. It is regulatory exposure that compounds.

Why the first wave fell short

The first wave mostly fell short of those three bars. The demos were impressive; real work exposed the gap. Records stopped where the vendor's interest did. Sovereignty was a clause, and it held only as long as the lawyers did.

When agents arrive with all three in place, the leverage is real, and that is why European enterprises are moving from scepticism to adoption.

How to start

Start the way you would with anything that has to hold up in production. Pick one piece of work that matters, write down what success looks like before you begin, and hand it to a team of agents alongside the people who own it today. Prove it on that work, then widen it.

With Myrmid, that first team works in Workspace beside your people, with everything Myrmid guarantees underneath it. You can build it by describing the job, or hire a ready one. Tell us about the work and we will tell you honestly which part we can take today.
